Certified Surgical Procedural Coding Specialist (Remote)

About the role

This remote position involves reading and interpreting health record documentation to accurately assign diagnoses and procedure codes for surgical cases. The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist works under supervision to ensure coding compliance and support billing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Assess health record documentation for completeness and accuracy of diagnoses and procedures.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, and surgical terminology to assign correct CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Select principal diagnosis and procedures using UHDDS definitions and confirm DRGs/APCs per Prospective Payment System.
• Assist patient billing services to submit clean claims for medical necessity.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED plus at least 2 years of coding experience.
• Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems.
• One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
