Cemetery Technician – Entry Level

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an entry‑level Cemetery Technician to support the operations and upkeep of a veterans’ cemetery in Milledgeville. This full‑time position involves hands‑on labor to ensure a respectful, well‑maintained environment for interments and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with grave digging, backfilling, and operation of light excavation equipment under supervision.
• Prepare burial sites, set up grave markers, and position headstones.
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, edging, leaf raking, and general landscaping.
• Maintain cemetery facilities, including restrooms, shelters, and administrative buildings.
• Operate and care for hand tools and power equipment like mowers, weed eaters, and blowers.
• Follow safety protocols, report equipment issues, and help set up ceremonies or special events.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least six months of general labor experience.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work in various weather conditions.
• Capability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lb unassisted.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a respectful, professional demeanor.
