Casework Intern – Fall 2026 (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Casework Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This unpaid position supports the IRC's mission to assist newly arrived refugee families in Charlottesville, Virginia, by providing direct client services and essential administrative support.

Key responsibilities

• Attend the Volunteer/Intern Orientation.
• Transport clients to agencies such as Social Security, Health Department, and Department of Social Services.
• Orient new refugees to local public transit and community resources.
• Shop for and set up households for arriving refugee families.
• Complete applications and documentation for client case files.
• Advocate for clients during service delivery and represent IRC professionally.
• Record hours and submit monthly timesheets via the IRC Volunteer Dashboard.

Required profile

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable in a multicultural environment.
• Flexible, fast‑paced, and dynamic work style.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable, responsible, and able to meet deadlines.
• Own a car and willing to transport clients.
• Reside in or near Charlottesville, Virginia, and able to perform field work.
