Carpenter Foreman - Winter 2027 (Antarctica)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Carpenter Foreman for a seasonal contract supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The foreman supervises carpenters and apprentices and performs hands-on carpentry, maintenance and construction work, with tasking set by prior experience and ASC schedule needs.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise carpenters and apprentices and perform hands-on carpentry, repair and preventative maintenance on buildings and infrastructure
• Coordinate, supervise and perform field camp construction, maintenance and winterization (McMurdo only)
• Create design drawings and as-built drawings, and prepare schedules, progress and completion reports
• Maintain inventory records, coordinate material and labor support, and help with accurate timecards and charge codes
• Respond to emergency calls, document hours and work, and advise the supervisor on progress and staffing needs
• Follow SOPs, report hazards and code violations, and ensure staff attend required training
• Give performance feedback, submit end-of-season evaluations, and handle personnel matters with HR
• Work outdoors in extreme cold, lift heavy loads, and deploy to remote research facilities (McMurdo only)

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 6 years of documented carpentry experience, including framing, finish carpentry and design and layout, with at least 2 years in a lead, foreman or supervisory role
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship (for facility credentials)
• Valid US driver's license

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and diagrams
• Intermediate computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to learn computer-based labor, inventory and maintenance tracking apps; Maximo or similar CMMS preferred
