About the role
The Capital Access Business Consultant provides one‑on‑one consulting to entrepreneurs and small‑business owners who need financing. Working within the State Small Business Credit Initiative Technical Assistance program, the consultant helps clients prepare for and secure capital to start, stabilize, or grow their businesses.
Key responsibilities
- Assess client financing needs and evaluate appropriate funding options.
- Guide clients through the preparation of financing applications, including documentation and financial statements.
- Improve clients’ capital readiness by advising on creditworthiness, cash‑flow management, and business plans.
- Support the SSBCI TA program by increasing the number of financing applications and successful capital access outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and outcomes in the university’s reporting system.
Required profile
- Strong understanding of small‑business finance and capital markets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client counseling.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with university departments and external partners.
- Commitment to helping underserved entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Required skills
- Knowledge of business financing products (loans, grants, equity).
- Experience with financial statement analysis.
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing financing applications.
