Campus Police Officer

About the role

The State of Georgia, through North Georgia Technical College, is seeking a Campus Police Officer to ensure safety and order on its Clarkesville campus. This full‑time position involves law‑enforcement duties, emergency response, and collaboration with local agencies to protect students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Guard and monitor campus buildings, respond to alarms, and patrol premises to deter intrusion.
• Investigate criminal complaints, disturbances, vehicle accidents, and other incidents.
• Coordinate with State Patrol and neighboring law‑enforcement jurisdictions.
• Apprehend suspects, process bookings, and transport individuals as required.
• Inspect areas for fire, environmental hazards, and equipment functionality.
• Control access for employees, visitors, and contractors, and manage traffic during special events.
• Respond to fires, natural disasters, and other hazardous situations, including opening shelters and assisting special‑needs programs.
• Prepare detailed reports of daily activities, incidents, and irregularities.
• Maintain Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) certification and other required credentials.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid POST certification.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
• Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer, verbal, and written communication abilities.
