Campus Police Assistant Chief

About the role

The State of Georgia, through Athens Technical College, is seeking a Campus Police Assistant Chief to support public safety operations on campus. This senior law‑enforcement role assists the Chief in overseeing routine and emergency response services, ensuring a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in measuring the effectiveness of public‑safety operations and emergency response.
• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
• Coordinate day‑to‑day activities of campus officers.
• Monitor personnel compliance with TCSG policy and department procedures.
• Develop, review, and recommend policies and procedures.
• Interpret and apply state and federal regulations to campus police operations.
• Provide advice on appropriate law‑enforcement responses.
• Attend meetings with local law‑enforcement and emergency‑management agencies.
• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service.
• Maintain state certification standards and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree plus three (3) years of law‑enforcement experience, or five (5) years of law‑enforcement experience without a degree.
• Valid POST certification; POST instructor certification is preferred.
• Experience in a post‑secondary environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and related federal mandates.

Required skills

• POST certification (and preferably POST instructor).
• Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
• Familiarity with standardized emergency‑management systems.
• Understanding of the Clery Act and Title IX compliance.
