CAD Designer III

About the role

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering solutions for defense, intelligence, energy and civilian sectors, is seeking a CAD Designer for its Aiken, SC office. The designer initiates and completes engineering drawings for assigned projects in line with project discipline engineers' requirements, codes and design criteria, working under the direction of the Design Supervisor or Lead Designer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop engineering drawings of moderate complexity under general supervision, applying a solid understanding of a specific discipline
• Prepare designs and drawings from project specifications and written and verbal instructions, following established design practices, standards and procedures
• Review supplier documents for accuracy and assist in collecting data on manpower, man-hours and labor costs to help evaluate the budget
• Perform material take-offs, understand basic cost estimating and materials costs, and prepare design details and bills of materials for other design and drafting personnel
• Coordinate with colleagues in the same and other discipline groups, advise supervisors on schedule, budget and delay issues, and provide technical guidance to others
• Ensure quality, quantity and completeness of assigned tasks, keep proper files and records, and keep up with technical knowledge through training

Required profile

• Associate's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of experience
• Good oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to pass and maintain a security clearance and possible travel; position may require it
• Preferred: CAD design experience for instrumentation and controls or security systems

Required skills

• Capability with 2D and/or 3D plant design strongly recommended
• Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications
