Buyer – Supply Chain Management

About the role

The Buyer supports hospital operations by acquiring supplies, equipment, services and other products needed for patient care. Working closely with clinical and operational teams, the role ensures timely, accurate purchasing while maintaining contract compliance and inventory levels.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate requisitions from GHX, email and other approved channels, confirming product details, pricing, contract status and inventory availability.
• Create and manage regular, capital, minor equipment, service and standing purchase orders using GPO contracts, pricing agreements and quotes.
• Maintain the GHX dashboard, resolve order failures, discrepancies, substitutions and discontinued items to ensure accurate order submission.
• Follow up on open orders and back‑orders, researching alternate products when items are unavailable.
• Collaborate with suppliers, distributors, Value Analysis, clinical stakeholders and Inventory Control on product conversions, standardisation and vendor in‑services.
• Verify GPO contract pricing and resolve three‑way match discrepancies with suppliers and Accounting.
• Manage exception reports, investigate and document purchasing and invoice discrepancies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field or at least five years of supply chain management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of hospital purchasing processes, GPO contracts and inventory control.
