Bus Operator – District Transportation Department

About the role

The District Transportation Department is seeking a reliable Bus Operator to transport students safely within the school district. This position works at the district office and operates on a variable daily schedule based on route needs.

Key responsibilities

• Operate school buses in compliance with all state and district regulations.
• Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections and report any issues.
• Follow assigned routes, pick up and drop off students safely and on time.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, attendance records, and incident reports.
• Enforce district policies regarding student behavior and safety while on the bus.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, school staff, and parents as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California driver’s license of the appropriate class for bus operation.
• Special Driver Certificate for operating a school bus issued by the California DMV.
• Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Clean, district‑insurable driving record.
• Ability to complete TB clearance and fingerprinting at employee cost.
• Preference will be given to internal candidates.

Required skills

• Valid California Class B (or higher) driver’s license.
• Special Driver Certificate for school buses.
• Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
