Building Maintenance Worker

About the role

The Building Maintenance Worker provides essential upkeep of university facilities, ensuring that building structures, systems, and equipment operate safely and efficiently. This full‑time position supports the daily needs of campus occupants through routine maintenance and prompt repairs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform semi‑skilled preventative maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems.
• Respond to service calls, conduct scheduled inspections, and address unscheduled work requests.
• Utilize standard tools and materials while adhering to safety regulations.
• Collaborate with zone managers, central shop supervisors, and other trade staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of general building maintenance experience.
• Completion of a training program covering basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry/lock, and HVAC maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license for Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia.
