Budget Analyst

About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Safety is seeking a Budget Analyst to join its Headquarters in Atlanta. This position supports the agency’s financial planning and ensures responsible use of public funds while contributing to public safety initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, prepare, analyze and revise budgets and supporting schedules for assigned programs.
• Review and analyze budget program and policy issues, financial trends, and proposed legislation, providing recommendations to management.
• Perform expenditure analyses and create financial summaries for management review.
• Maintain expenditure controls by analyzing budgeting and accounting reports.
• Assess financial data to determine resource requirements, project trends, and make budget projections.
• Prepare budget amendments, audit records, and manage related operations.
• Represent budget areas before the legislature and coordinate budget codes, inventory tracking, and expense documentation.
• Interpret, write, and update policies and procedures related to budgeting and financial matters.

Required profile

• Education in finance, accounting, public administration, or a related field.
• Relevant experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or public sector finance.
• Ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate findings to management.
• Understanding of government budgeting processes and regulations.
