Biomedical Engineer – Clinical Engineering Role

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Engineer to lead our medical equipment program at the Cleveland VA Medical Center. The role ensures safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance of all medical technology within the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive medical equipment management program aligned with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
• Create and deliver continuing‑education curricula for safe use of medical technology.
• Manage device recall and safety‑alert programs, including hazard investigations to meet SMDA and TJC mandates.
• Lead capital asset and infrastructure planning for acquisition, installation, and lifecycle management of complex equipment.
• Serve as subject‑matter expert, providing service, system administration, training, quality assurance, and lifecycle support for specialized clinical technology.
• Advise clinical and administrative staff on existing and emerging technologies regarding viability, compatibility, and safety.
• Apply project‑management principles to deploy medical equipment and health‑information technologies.
• Collaborate with technical and professional stakeholders to integrate technology seamlessly.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Clinical Engineer certification (CCE).
• Minimum three years of hospital or healthcare experience in medical equipment maintenance or program management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer‑based medical systems, networking protocols, and information security as applied to VHA environments.
• Proven ability to develop compliant equipment management programs, curricula, and recall/safety‑alert processes.
• Experience in capital asset planning, project management, and lifecycle support of medical technology.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements (SMDA, TJC, ISO) and VA biomedical engineering operations.
