Bilingual Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

About the role

Under general supervision, the Bilingual Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides limited para‑professional social services to WIC mothers and their families. The role involves facilitating prenatal breastfeeding classes, delivering individual education, and offering ongoing support through telephone, home, and hospital visits.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate prenatal breastfeeding classes for WIC participants alongside a CPA.
• Provide one‑on‑one breastfeeding education in the WIC clinic and via scheduled home, telephone, or hospital visits.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all peer‑counselor contacts in the designated database system.
• Develop personalized breastfeeding plans that consider each mother’s socioeconomic situation.
• Attend monthly staff meetings, breastfeeding conferences, and relevant workshops.
• Assist with emergency response duties as an essential employee, including staffing shelters or specimen collection sites.

Required profile

• Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish.
• Experience working with WIC mothers or in a public‑health setting is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
• Reliability to meet scheduled visit intervals and attend required meetings.
