Behavioral Health & School Safety Program Specialist (Atlanta)

About the role

The State of Georgia is establishing a Behavioral Health and School Safety team to implement HB268, the Comprehensive School Safety & Student Well‑being Act. Reporting to the BH and School Safety Director, the specialist will support schools across the state in developing safe, health‑focused environments.

Key responsibilities

• Review and provide feedback on school safety plans to ensure compliance with state standards.
• Deliver training and technical assistance to schools whose plans need revision.
• Integrate behavioral health considerations into threat assessment, management, and climate initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency on safety and health matters.
• Partner with the DBHDD Office of Data and Analytics to collect, analyze, and apply relevant statistics.
• Manage assigned grants and contracts, preparing reports and presentations.
• Represent DBHDD in community outreach and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Current professional license permitting practice in Georgia (if applicable).
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Willingness to undergo drug screening, TB testing, and annual influenza vaccination (exemptions allowed for documented medical or religious reasons).
• Strong communication skills for training and community representation.
