Battery Materials Engineer

About the role

Zeta Energy is moving its next‑generation battery technology from the lab to commercial production. The Battery Materials Engineer will lead scale‑up of high‑performance electrode materials, ensuring consistent, high‑purity output while supporting safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and formulate advanced electrolytes (liquid, polymer, solid‑state) to improve performance and safety.
• Prepare electrodes, assemble coin and pouch cells, and conduct electrochemical testing.
• Investigate relationships between electrode/electrolyte properties and cell metrics such as capacity, energy density, and cycle life for Li‑metal/sulfur systems.
• Use SEM, Raman, spectroscopy, calorimetry and other tools, applying DoE and data‑science methods to troubleshoot and optimise material properties.
• Collaborate with external research scientists, material suppliers, and specialised labs to accelerate milestones.
• Develop and enforce laboratory safety SOPs, emergency response protocols, and PPE compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with cell characterization (charge/discharge, CV, EIS).
• Proficiency in multiple material‑characterisation techniques and ability to translate data into technical reports.
• Willingness to work onsite in Houston with occasional domestic and international travel.
