Barista

About the role

The Barista is an engaging and enthusiastic ambassador for the restaurant and hotel, making recommendations to guests based on their verbal and non-verbal cues and acting as a passionate salesperson for both the menu and the gift shop. The role reports to the Restaurant Managers and the Director of Food & Beverage.

Key responsibilities

• Report to work on time and be ready for scheduled shifts, following all steps of service.
• Know drink names, ingredients, preparation methods, glassware and garnishes, and make all coffee and tea drinks on the menu with care.
• Sell menu items and gift shop items to increase overall sales, and speak confidently about gift shop products.
• Serve beverages and food cheerfully and efficiently, and ensure service and cash wrap stations are stocked.
• Run room service to hotel guests as needed, and complete daily inventory, informing servers and managers of changes.
• Use the POS to ring orders, accept payment and close checks, and provide an accurate report of all income received during the shift.
• Label, stock and merchandise items in the gift shop, and keep it and the restaurant service area clean and orderly.
• Complete opening and closing duties, side work and any other tasks assigned by the supervisor, while following sanitation guidelines.
• Verify guests are at least 21 when buying alcoholic beverages and sell responsibly.

Required profile

• High school or equivalent education; experience in a breakfast restaurant, coffee shop or retail shop preferred.
• Able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
• Responsible, dependable and punctual, with basic math skills and strong communication skills.
• Clean, professional appearance and a positive attitude with teammates and guests.
• Must pass a background check.
• Physical ability to carry a full-service tray, stand and walk for long periods, and lift at least 25 pounds.
