Backend API and Integrations Software Engineer III

About the role

We are looking for a Backend API and Integrations Software Engineer III to design, build, and operate large‑scale integration services and APIs. The role focuses on Kong API Management, HL7 FHIR data facades, and enterprise integrations using Java and JavaScript, supporting a generative‑AI clinical decision support product.

Key responsibilities

• Develop resilient, observable microservices and integration components, applying patterns for scaling, fault tolerance, and back‑pressure.
• Configure and manage Kong Gateway (routes, services, plugins, rate limiting, mTLS) via declarative YAML and CI/CD pipelines.
• Build and maintain a FHIR data façade that maps internal data to FHIR resources, ensuring performance and correctness.
• Implement backend integrations with downstream systems using REST, gRPC, and messaging/queues, handling schema evolution.
• Own the full API lifecycle: design with OpenAPI, implementation, automated testing, versioning, and SLO‑driven operations.
• Implement OAuth2/OIDC flows, token introspection, and service‑to‑service authentication, following secure coding practices.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and working knowledge of JavaScript/Node.js.
• Hands‑on experience with API gateways, especially Kong, and declarative configuration using YAML.
• Familiarity with distributed microservice architectures and CI/CD pipelines.
