AVID Tutor – Junior High/High School

About the role

The AVID Tutor provides academic support to junior high and high school students within the Upland Unified School District, helping them succeed in core subjects such as mathematics, English language arts, and science.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑on‑one or small‑group tutoring sessions aligned with the AVID framework.
• Prepare and adapt lesson plans to meet individual student needs.
• Track and report student progress to teachers and administrators.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce curriculum objectives.
• Maintain required documentation, including transcripts, letters of introduction, recommendations, and resumes.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or graduated from a technical college or university with a degree or coursework in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, Education, or a related field.
• Adults with a 2‑ or 3‑year post‑high‑school degree who are interested in working with middle and high school students.
• College students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and at least 20 credit hours, as evidenced by an official transcript.
• Ability to work effectively with junior high and high school learners.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of subject areas such as mathematics, English language arts, and science.
• Clear communication of academic concepts.
• Organizational ability to maintain student records and documentation.
