Automobile Technician – Civil Service Exam

About the role

The City of Cleveland is seeking qualified candidates to take a civil service examination for the Automobile Technician position. Successful applicants will join a team that inspects, repairs, and services a variety of motorized equipment, including automobiles, trucks, and specialized vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, adjust, and service automobiles, trucks, and other motorized equipment under supervision.
• Overhaul and repair engines, electrical systems, brake mechanisms, ignition systems, and carburetors.
• Repair vehicle bodies, fenders, air compressors, concrete mixers, and mobile pumping equipment.
• Service batteries, operate tow vehicles, and perform welding repairs as needed.
• Operate shop tools and machinery to complete automotive repairs efficiently.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; automotive repair training preferred.
• At least one year of full‑time paid experience repairing automobiles or light vehicles.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
• Valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
• Possession of personal tools required for the duties.
