Automation Engineer

About the role

Moog’s Power and Data Division is seeking an Automation Engineer to develop equipment specifications and lead cross‑functional automation projects that boost manufacturing efficiency, safety, and reliability. You will work onsite in Blacksburg, VA, collaborating with IT, Safety, Facilities, Industrial Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Create comprehensive equipment specifications, including functional requirements, integration methods, and safety features.
• Evaluate vendor proposals, oversee FAT/SAT testing, and manage commissioning.
• Integrate automation equipment with plant networks, MES, ERP, and data systems in partnership with IT.
• Coordinate with Safety and Facilities teams to ensure regulatory compliance and infrastructure readiness.
• Collaborate with Industrial Engineers to align projects with lean process optimization.
• Lead automation initiatives from concept through commissioning, defining scope, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
• Troubleshoot technical issues post‑deployment and provide training and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in industrial automation, equipment specification, and manufacturing project delivery.
• Proven ability to manage cross‑functional projects and deliver results.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
