Auditor II – Internal Audit & Advisory

About the role

The Auditor II leads and executes audit and advisory engagements to uncover root causes, assess risk exposures, and recommend cost‑effective corrective actions that align with the district’s strategic objectives. This position safeguards assets, improves operational efficiency, and enhances stakeholder confidence through transparent, accountable audit practices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and perform targeted audits, advisory projects, and investigations across district departments.
• Develop and present comprehensive audit reports with pragmatic recommendations.
• Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, translating findings into actionable strategies.
• Mentor and supervise less‑experienced staff, providing quality‑assurance feedback.
• Facilitate audit engagement meetings to define scope, discuss findings, and outline next steps.
• Evaluate financial records and operational procedures for compliance with Board policies and district standards.
• Identify emerging risks and propose mitigation strategies to protect reputation and resources.
• Support onboarding and training initiatives to foster continuous learning.
• Review internal controls and audit trails to ensure robust, secure financial systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
• CPA, CA, CIA, CISA, or CFE certification (required).
• 5+ years of direct internal audit experience.
• Knowledge of internal audit standards, governmental auditing standards, GAAP, Texas Education Agency Resource Guide, and district policies.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong written communication skills for clear audit work papers and reports.
