Auditor II – Field Auditor (Houston, TX)

About the role

We are seeking an Auditor II to join our Houston team. The role combines field auditing, evidence management, and regulatory investigations to ensure compliance with tax and fee statutes. The auditor works under limited supervision and will complete required training programs during the first year.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain chain of custody for all seized and purchased evidence, including tagging, inventory, and documentation in the SAPE system.
• Enter and safeguard evidence data promptly, conduct annual inventory audits, and coordinate with Enforcement personnel.
• Perform entry‑level tax, fee, and regulatory audits of corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietors, following audit manuals and documenting discrepancies.
• Assist senior auditors with complex administrative cases, develop fact‑based narratives, and support voluntary compliance initiatives.
• Participate in inspections and investigations, and may testify in court regarding evidence handling.
• Complete the New Auditors Training Program, New Auditor’s Academy, and Auditor In‑Service courses as scheduled.

Required profile

• Ability to work with limited supervision and exercise independent judgment.
• Willingness to travel within the region and attend off‑site training sessions.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record‑keeping.
• Eligibility to complete mandatory training programs within the first year of employment.
