Audit Associate – Houma, LA

About the role

Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC is seeking an Audit Associate to join its Houma office. The role offers a mix of field and office work on audit engagements, management services, and tax return preparation, providing a solid foundation for a career in public accounting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in evaluating and testing internal accounting controls.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Examine client bank and subsidiary account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Compute and document accruals, write‑offs of prepaid expenses, and deferred charges.
• Prepare tax returns for S‑Corp, C‑Corp, partnerships, multi‑state entities, individuals, trusts and estates.
• Stay current with federal and state tax laws and regulations.
• Provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to clients.
• Flex workload to meet deadlines and travel overnight as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Progress toward CPA exam preferred.
• Professional appearance and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work accurately with numerical and textual information.
• Willingness to travel overnight and work occasional weekends.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Familiarity with federal and state income tax laws.
• Experience evaluating internal controls.
• Financial statement preparation.
• Bank and subsidiary account reconciliation.
• Accrual computation and documentation.
• Tax return preparation for various entity types (S‑Corp, C‑Corp, partnership, multi‑state, individual, trust, estate).
