Attorney – Transactional

About the role

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Law Department is seeking experienced transactional attorneys to join its 100‑person team. The role focuses on structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial and real‑estate transactions that support the Authority’s operations and strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and advise on real‑estate transactions, including leases, ground‑lease, development, inter‑agency agreements, and related permits.
• Prepare and manage procurement and commercial contracts covering goods, services, construction, technology, financial arrangements, intellectual property, data sharing, revenue, PPPs and confidentiality.
• Lead high‑value transactions from inception through execution, providing real‑time risk analysis and business‑oriented advice.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, corporate governance, and approval processes.
• Report to the Chief Business Counsel and support transportation‑related legal matters.

Required profile

• Member of the Bar in good standing in New York or New Jersey.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in commercial, real‑estate, construction or procurement law.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large‑scale transactions and serve as primary drafting counsel.
• Law firm experience preferred.
