Asylum Program Support Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee in New York is seeking an unpaid intern to support its asylum seeker case‑management program. You will assist staff in helping recent arrivals access healthcare, public benefits, housing, and legal services while gaining hands‑on experience in immigration advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating and facilitating group orientations for potential asylum‑seeker program clients.
• Collaborate with staff to develop program materials and resources.
• Support client enrollment and refer ineligible clients to community resources such as shelters, food banks, and crisis centers.
• Conduct research on referral opportunities and maintain referral records and databases.
• Provide caseworkers with support to connect clients to external services.
• Document client interactions and maintain client files across platforms (Box, ETO, SharePoint).
• Administer client satisfaction surveys and help create internal and external tools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, trauma‑informed environment.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Box.
• Familiarity with SharePoint.
