Associate/Full Professor & Chair, Fine Arts

About the role

The School of Education, Social Sciences, and the Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks an Associate or Full Professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Fine Arts. This 12‑month appointment reports directly to the Dean and requires a collaborative, dynamic, and visionary leadership style to guide the department toward new programmatic directions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct periodic evaluations of faculty and staff.
• Teach two 3‑credit courses each semester.
• Maintain the department’s class schedule and art facilities.
• Coordinate departmental events and activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• M.F.A. in a discipline housed within the department.
• Previous supervisory experience at the college level.
• Record of scholarship, successful teaching, and administrative experience in curriculum planning, program and faculty development, budget management, and grant writing.
• 5–10 years of college‑level teaching experience.
• Experience teaching Art Education and/or Applied Design (e.g., graphic illustration, sequential arts, commercial photography).
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, student recruitment, advising, and mentorship.
• History of developing and evaluating innovative educational programs.
