Associate Medical Examiner – Central Lab

About the role

The State Medical Examiner's Office within the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is seeking an Associate Medical Examiner to join the Central Regional Laboratory in Dry Branch, Macon, GA. This full‑time position supports forensic pathology services for the majority of Georgia’s counties, working in a brand‑new state‑of‑the‑art facility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform autopsies and forensic examinations on deceased individuals.
• Document findings, prepare reports, and testify in legal proceedings as needed.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, district attorneys, and child‑abuse investigative teams.
• Maintain laboratory standards, quality control, and chain‑of‑custody protocols.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and emergency death investigations.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in pathology.
• Specialized training or experience in forensic pathology.
• Eligibility for a Georgia state medical license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a GBI background investigation clearance.
