Associate Mechanical Engineer – Internship/Co‑Op

About the role

Mesh Optical Technologies is looking for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering team as an intern/co‑op. You will work on the design and build of optical interconnect products and the manufacturing facility that produces them.

Key responsibilities

• Design and construct test platforms for thermal, optical and electrical characterization of prototype interconnects.
• Collaborate with a mentor to identify production improvements and rapidly prototype hardware from CAD to cleanroom within days.
• Support designs with finite‑element analysis, thermal simulations and detailed drawings with GD&T.
• Work hands‑on alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team developing a high‑volume optical manufacturing facility.

Required profile

• Pursuing or recently completed a B.S. or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Portfolio of hands‑on projects such as Formula SAE, SolarCar, robotics, CubeSats or similar.
• Strong analytical mindset, first‑principles problem solving and clear communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with modern CAD software and version‑control systems.
• Experience with finite element analysis and thermal simulation tools.
• Ability to produce detailed drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

What we offer

• Hourly compensation ranging from $26 to $38.
