Associate Manager Product Designer - Hot Wheels Tracks and Playsets

About the role

Mattel is looking for an Associate Manager Product Designer to lead and inspire a group of designers on one or more key segments of Hot Wheels Licensed Entertainment, specifically Tracks and Playsets. The role creates innovative products for kids, from vehicle playsets and track sets to licensed die-cast designs, and requires staying on top of kids' trends, pop culture and play insights. The pay range is $115,000 to $140,000 annually.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of designers, helping them become future leaders and maximizing each person's strengths
• Execute and help create product design visions, strengthening the designers' voice and handling hands-on management
• Work with Consumer Insights to identify opportunities, consumer needs and purchase behaviors, and partner with Marketing, Packaging, Engineering and Product Management
• Present design concepts clearly to audiences of varying sizes and build buy-in across the organization
• Adapt quickly to new challenges, pivot projects and strategy, and occasionally take on design projects alongside managing the team

Required profile

• 5+ years of cross-functional product development experience
• 2+ years of people leadership experience managing two or more groups of people
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in production-related capacity
• Ability to thrive in Hot Wheels Licensed Entertainment Tracks, Playsets and vehicle design
• Self-motivated, able to manage multiple parallel projects and handle uncertainty proactively

Required skills

• Ideation, sketching, illustration and rough modeling, with knowledge of final modeling and production
• Data-driven decision-making and strong analytical and quantitative thinking
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
• Ability to design for the target consumer, considering kid usability and parent expectations
