Associate Director, Research Security

About the role

The Associate Director, Research Security leads the university system’s effort to protect controlled unclassified information (CUI) across all research activities. Reporting to senior system research security leadership, this senior professional ensures compliance with federal, state, and Texas A&M University System regulations while supporting collaborative research.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee non‑IT CUI compliance programs for all system members.
• Coordinate closely with IT departments and member compliance offices to align security controls with research missions.
• Monitor day‑to‑day CUI program activities and ensure adherence to federal, state, and TAMUS standards.
• Identify compliance vulnerabilities and create remediation plans.
• Serve as liaison to system institutions, providing guidance on CUI requirements.
• Prepare project‑based implementation plans in partnership with compliance and IT teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Significant experience in research security, compliance, or related regulatory environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex compliance programs and work across multiple institutions.
