Associate Director, Financial Assistance

About the role

The University of Miami Medical School seeks an experienced Associate Director to lead its Financial Assistance Office. This full‑time role oversees the entire financial aid program, ensuring excellent service for students, families, and internal stakeholders while maintaining compliance with all regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Instruct students and parents on the financial aid application process.
• Assist in scholarship, grant, and monetary assistance award decisions.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of private, state, and federal aid programs.
• Audit financial aid accounts for accuracy and report concerns.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures manuals, and daily office practices.
• Coordinate financial aid events, scholarship fairs, and academic plan programs.
• Hire, mentor, supervise, train, and evaluate department staff.
• Analyze, evaluate, and report on financial goals and objectives.
• Establish and assess internal controls and ensure compliance with university policies.
• Serve as primary operational lead for the Medical School Financial Assistance Office, handling student inquiries and complex cases.
• Implement FAFSA and CSS Profile processing, resolve eligibility issues, and manage verification requirements.
• Collaborate with lending partners to process, certify, and monitor private educational loans.
• Coordinate disbursement processes for federal, institutional, and private aid.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial aid administration and operations.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and private financial aid regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership and staff management abilities.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Customer‑service orientation with the ability to handle complex inquiries.
• Ability to develop and enforce policies and internal controls.
