Associate Counsel / Counsel – New York State Commission

About the role

The Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct (CPC) seeks experienced attorneys to join its investigative team as Associate Counsel or Counsel. In this senior legal position you will lead confidential investigations into alleged prosecutorial misconduct throughout New York State, reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and triage misconduct allegations submitted to the CPC.
• Conduct preliminary fact‑finding, draft memoranda, and recommend whether to open formal investigations.
• Manage teams of investigators, paralegals, and administrative staff to execute authorized investigations.
• Collaborate with CPC attorneys, including the Administrator and Deputy Director, throughout the investigative process.
• Prepare detailed investigation reports and recommendations for the Commission.
• Assist in hearing preparation and evidence presentation.
• Support executive staff in preparing for commission meetings (Counsel role).
• Deliver comprehensive training sessions on legal and investigative techniques.
• Undertake special projects to fulfill the CPC’s statutory mandate.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with several years of experience in litigation, investigations, or related legal practice.
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters with discretion.
• Strong analytical and writing skills for drafting memoranda and reports.
• Leadership experience managing investigative or legal support teams.
