Associate Counsel, Corporate

About the role

Topstep is seeking an Associate Counsel to join its fast‑moving Legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will act as a corporate generalist, providing legal support across governance, commercial contracts, litigation, and technology matters for its fintech and trading platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Manage outside counsel for specialized matters.
• Draft, review, and maintain user‑facing documentation such as terms of service, privacy policies, acceptable use policies, trader agreements, and related disclosures.
• Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS agreements, software licensing agreements, vendor contracts, and other technology‑related commercial agreements, including data processing agreements.
• Prepare and maintain general corporate documentation, including organizing minute books.
• Assist in managing litigation and subpoena requests.
• Provide legal counsel to product development and engineering teams.
• Advise cybersecurity and privacy teams on data privacy, cybersecurity incidents, and data access requests.
• Support trader support team on trader rules, account eligibility, agreement interpretation, and rule application.
• Conduct legal research and advise leadership on legal risks, regulatory trends, and contract matters.
• Participate in training and presentations on legal and compliance topics.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 4–6 years of legal experience in‑house or at a mid‑to‑large law firm, focusing on corporate, commercial, and technology transactions.
• Strong background in drafting and negotiating SaaS, licensing, and other technology agreements.
• Experience with corporate governance, data privacy, and cybersecurity matters.
