Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology - Anatomy and Physiology

About the role

The Biology Department at Adams State University in Alamosa is seeking a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in anatomy and physiology. The position starts in August 2027 and focuses on teaching, with faculty expected to carry out scholarly or creative activity and to involve undergraduates in research.

Key responsibilities

• Teach lecture and laboratory courses in human anatomy and physiology, animal physiology and nutrition; participation in General Biology or other core biology courses may also be required.
• Teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester, with small classes and opportunities for one-on-one mentoring.
• Conduct scholarly or creative activity and involve undergraduates in research.
• Provide service to the department, university and community.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Biology with a background in anatomy and physiology; ABD candidates with expected completion within 6 months of employment will be considered.
• Commitment to student-centered instruction and to high-impact, inclusive pedagogy in biology education.
• Plan for research or scholarly activity at a primarily undergraduate institution.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty, staff and students across the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
• Preferred: undergraduate teaching experience, knowledge of active teaching strategies, and experience recruiting and retaining underrepresented and first-generation students.

• Salary of $50,469-$63,086 for assistant professors and $58,862-$73,578 for associate professors, depending on experience and education.
