Assistant/Associate Professor & Director of Counseling (Play Therapy)

About the role

The Department of Counseling at East Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor who will also serve as Director of the Play Therapy & Expressive Arts Center, beginning Fall 2027. The position includes teaching, research, and leadership of the Center.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and sustain a research program in play therapy, secure external funding, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Teach two courses each semester across undergraduate and graduate levels, both online and face‑to‑face, and contribute to curriculum development.
• Direct the Play Therapy & Expressive Arts Center, overseeing daily operations, budgeting, compliance, and community partnerships.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, and engage with the professional counseling community.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate in counseling/counselor education from a CACREP‑accredited program.
• Membership in the Association for Play Therapy and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor‑Supervisor (LPC‑S) with Registered Play Therapist‑Supervisor™ credential.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity in play therapy research and effective teaching at graduate/undergraduate levels.

Required skills

• Knowledge of play therapy theory, practice, and accreditation standards.
• Experience with curriculum design and delivery in both online and face‑to‑face formats.
