Assistant/Associate Extension Agent – Nutrition & Community Health

About the role

The Louisiana State University seeks a dedicated Assistant/Associate Extension Agent to lead nutrition and community health initiatives across Assumption, St. Mary and St. Martin parishes. Reporting to the Parish Chair and regional coordinators, the agent will split time between Flavors of Health programming and the CDC High Obesity Program, delivering evidence‑based education to residents.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a work plan for nutrition education under the Flavors of Health (70% of time), including curriculum delivery, material creation, and outreach.
• Recruit participants, conduct workshops, produce newsletters, social‑media content, and maintain the parish website.
• Facilitate a community advisory committee to guide program direction and strengthen outreach.
• Allocate 30% of effort to the CDC‑HOP Healthy Communities program, coordinating activities under regional supervision.
• Serve as primary point of contact for nutrition programming in Assumption Parish and support contacts in Lower St. Martin and St. Mary parishes.
• Disseminate research‑based information, identify educational opportunities, and represent the extension office at stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Degree in nutrition, public health, or a related field.
• Experience in community‑based health education or extension services.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with regional staff.
