Assistant/Associate Extension Agent – Livestock & Forage

About the role

The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center seeks an Assistant or Associate Extension Agent to lead livestock and forage programming across Tangipahoa Parish, with additional responsibilities in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. This non‑tenure‑track faculty position focuses 100% on Extension and Applied Research (ANR) activities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver research‑based education on livestock and forage production through on‑farm visits, demonstrations, workshops, and field days.
• Establish and lead advisory committees to assess stakeholder needs and shape extension programs.
• Develop and distribute outreach materials such as newsletters, factsheets, social‑media posts, and press articles.
• Maintain and update parish web pages and provide pesticide re‑certification training.
• Engage with local agricultural organizations (e.g., Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau) to strengthen community ties.
• Conduct annual program evaluation and report on outcomes and impacts.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in livestock and forage production systems.
• Strong communication skills for diverse audiences, including producers, industry groups, and the public.
• Willingness to travel throughout the three parishes for field activities.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with agricultural research.
