Assistant/Associate Computer Vision Research Scientist

About the role

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland seeks an Assistant or Associate Research Scientist to advance computer vision research supporting defense and national‑security missions. You will design, develop, and evaluate cutting‑edge computer‑vision algorithms and prototypes that address real‑world challenges for intelligence stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement computer‑vision models for real‑time and offline applications.
• Evaluate and optimise algorithm performance across diverse datasets and domains.
• Apply principles from computer vision and psychology to create empirically rigorous solutions for DOD stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on AI/ML integration and system architecture.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations of research outcomes.
• Assist in proposal development, research planning, and publication of results.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Ability to undergo background investigation covering criminal, credit, education, employment, and military history.
• Strong experience in computational modeling and AI/ML systems.
