Assistant Teacher – Head Start Classroom

About the role

The Assistant Teacher supports the Head Start Teacher in delivering high‑quality early childhood education to preschool‑aged children. Working in a classroom environment, you will help create a safe, nurturing space that promotes social‑emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with children throughout the day, providing constant supervision during indoor and outdoor activities.
• Assist in planning and delivering curriculum‑aligned activities that meet individual child needs.
• Guide classroom projects and field trips alongside the Head Start Teacher.
• Maintain classroom management using developmentally appropriate techniques.
• Foster a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment and interact with children one‑on‑one and in small groups.
• Build effective relationships with families and support partnership activities.
• Ensure all instruction complies with Head Start Program Performance Standards and agency safety policies.

Required profile

• Commitment to child safety and adherence to Save the Children’s values of accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity, and integrity.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Start Teacher and support daily classroom operations.
• Willingness to engage families and maintain high standards of communication.
