Assistant Superintendent – Construction (Chicago, IL)

About the role

The Assistant Superintendent supports and supervises daily construction activities on a data‑center project in Chicago, working closely with site superintendents, safety officers, engineers and project managers. The role requires extensive on‑site presence with up to 90% travel and occasional off‑hours work.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate directly with site superintendents to oversee daily construction tasks in assigned areas.
• Monitor subcontractors and trades, coordinate work to prevent conflicts and delays.
• Track daily production, prepare reports on manpower, progress, weather and issues, and communicate schedule impacts to the Superintendent.
• Maintain project records, photographs, inspection logs, and material delivery tracking.
• Manage site access, traffic flow, laydown areas and housekeeping.
• Review contract documents, drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with design, budget and schedule.
• Assist with weekly “Look Ahead” scheduling and field tasking.
• Enforce site safety rules, document violations and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• OSHA 10‑hour or 30‑hour certification.
• Minimum two years of construction or craft supervision experience.
• At least two years of data‑center experience, including mechanical and electrical system installation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using Microsoft Project.
• Familiarity with Blue Beam for document review.
• Basic knowledge of building codes, safety regulations and trade terminology.
