Assistant Research Professor – Infectious Disease Epidemiology

About the role

The University of Maryland School of Public Health seeks an Assistant Research Professor to lead cutting‑edge research on influenza and airborne infection transmission. The position bridges the Departments of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Global, Environmental, & Occupational Health.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct epidemiological studies, including observational studies and clinical trials, on respiratory pathogen transmission.
• Develop and submit competitive research grant proposals.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in aerobiology, engineering, indoor environment, biostatistics, and behavioral health.
• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak investigation (approximately 30% effort).
• Expand research capacity through novel partnerships, community‑based studies, and advanced analytical methods such as causal machine learning.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, or a related field with a strong focus on infectious diseases.
• Demonstrated expertise in influenza, airborne transmission, and non‑pharmaceutical interventions.
• Track record of securing external research funding.
• Experience teaching epidemiology or related subjects at the university level.
