Assistant Reading Instructor (ARI) – Elementary Classroom Support

About the role

The Assistant Reading Instructor (ARI) supports classroom teachers in delivering basic reading skills to elementary students. Working under the guidance of the teacher or principal, the ARI helps ensure each child accesses the full range of classroom resources.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the supervising teacher to free up instructional time.
• Teach assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Plan and participate in daily and long‑range lesson activities.
• Guide small groups in independent, enrichment, or remedial work.
• Maintain classroom order, supplies, and educational media.
• Monitor and report special needs of individual students.
• Support students during play periods and assist with meals and table manners.
• Help with record‑keeping, notebook checks, and supervision of makeup work and testing (without assigning grades).
• Participate in staff development and uphold district policies on assets and confidentiality.

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher from an accredited college, or at least 60 college credit hours.
• Pass the Work‑Keys test as required by the Mississippi Department of Education.
• Ability to communicate clearly, stand, walk, and perform fine‑motor tasks.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain regular in‑person attendance.
