About the role
The Macon Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 3) to represent indigent clients in criminal matters before the Superior Court. This full‑time position offers the opportunity to provide zealous advocacy and make a direct impact on the lives of Georgia’s citizens.
Key responsibilities
- Represent indigent defendants in criminal cases, including trial preparation, presentation, and plea negotiations.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and analyze precedents.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, orders, and other court documents.
- Collaborate with senior staff and supervise case preparation under guidance.
- Maintain compliance with ethical standards and State Bar requirements.
Required profile
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia (or eligibility to be admitted within one year).
- At least two years of relevant legal experience, or experience at the lower‑level Attorney 2 level.
- Demonstrated ability to handle mid‑level criminal defense matters.
