About the role

The Macon Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 3) to represent indigent clients in Superior Court. This mid‑level position involves preparing and presenting criminal cases, entering pleas, and providing zealous advocacy under supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Represent indigent clients in criminal matters before Superior Court.
• Conduct legal research and analyze precedents.
• Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, orders, and other court documents.
• Present cases at trial and handle plea negotiations.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff on case strategy.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar within one year of hire.
• At least two years of relevant legal experience or experience at the lower‑level Attorney 2 level.

Required skills
