About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 1) to join the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office. This entry‑level position provides legal representation to indigent clients facing criminal charges in Superior Court.

Key responsibilities

• Provide competent, zealous representation and advocacy for indigent clients.
• Develop trusting attorney‑client relationships and explain legal rights and processes.
• Handle routine criminal cases and assist with matters of moderate complexity.
• Perform beginning‑level professional legal work, including research, drafting, and court appearances.
• Perform other related duties as required by the office.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• License to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar exam and obtain licensure within one year of hiring.
• Active membership in the State Bar of Georgia or pending admission.
• Strong commitment to indigent defense and client advocacy.
