Assistant Professor – Precision Ranching

About the role

The Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center seeks an innovative scientist to join as an Assistant Professor in Precision Ranching. The position is a 12‑month, 100 % research appointment based primarily at the Sonora Experiment Station.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an externally funded research program focused on precision technologies for rangeland productivity and sustainability.
• Conduct fundamental, applied and translational research on smart sensing, automation, AI and advanced analytics for ranch management.
• Publish findings in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals and present to stakeholders.
• Mentor graduate students, supervise research personnel and secure competitive extramural funding.
• Collaborate with AgriLife researchers, industry partners, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to translate research into practical applications.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Rangeland Science, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in rangeland production systems and precision agriculture technologies.
• Record of peer‑reviewed publications and ability to obtain external research funding.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
