Assistant Professor of Accounting

About the role

West Texas A&M University seeks an Assistant Professor of Accounting to join its Accounting, Economics & Finance department. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, mentor students, develop curriculum, and advance scholarly research.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and assess undergraduate and graduate accounting courses.
• Develop, update, and modernize course materials and curricula.
• Advise and mentor students on academic and career matters.
• Conduct and publish research in accounting or related fields.
• Participate in departmental and university service, including committees and curriculum development.
• Stay current with changes in accounting standards and educational practices.
• Collaborate with industry and professional organizations to ensure relevance of coursework.

Required profile

• Doctorate (PhD or DBA) in Accounting or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in university‑level teaching.
• Documented record of scholarly research or clear potential for research productivity.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required skills

• Professional certification such as CPA or CMA (preferred).
• Proficiency with accounting software and related technology.
• Experience delivering online or hybrid instruction.
