Assistant General Counsel – Compliance Officer

About the role

The Assistant General Counsel, Compliance Officer will lead NextDecade’s enterprise‑wide compliance and ethics framework, ensuring the company adheres to all applicable laws, regulations and internal governance standards. Reporting to the General Counsel, this senior legal professional will act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and champion a culture of integrity across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and continuously improve the company’s compliance and ethics program, including policies, standards and procedures aligned with U.S. federal, state and industry regulations.
• Advise the General Counsel, executive leadership and business units on compliance risks, regulatory developments and mitigation strategies.
• Conduct risk assessments, monitoring activities and corrective action plans to maintain an effective compliance framework.
• Lead or supervise internal investigations related to compliance, ethics and regulatory matters, and manage remediation and reporting.
• Respond to regulatory inquiries, audits and examinations, and oversee enterprise‑wide compliance training and awareness programs.
• Establish compliance reporting metrics and provide regular updates to senior leadership.
• Support corporate governance initiatives and promote ethical decision‑making throughout the organization.

Required profile

• 7‑10+ years of progressive experience in compliance, regulatory, ethics or risk management, preferably within energy, infrastructure or other highly regulated industries.
• Proven experience designing, implementing and overseeing enterprise compliance programs, including anti‑corruption, ethics and internal controls.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state regulatory frameworks.
