Assistant Director of Student Activities

About the role

Carleton College is seeking an energetic Assistant Director of Student Activities to support a vibrant co‑curricular program for roughly 2,000 undergraduates. The role works within the Student Activities Office to enhance student development through events, organizations, and campus venues.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and assessing major campus events such as New Student Week, Senior Week, Sproncert, and the Midwinter Ball.
• Serve as primary advisor for multiple student organizations, handling risk management, travel logistics, contract negotiation and alcohol‑related policies.
• Co‑advise the Student Activities Programming Board and the Carleton Student Association, and lead regular staff meetings.
• Manage budgets totaling approximately $1.2 M and oversee the operation of venues including the campus radio station, student newspaper, entertainment space, food pantry, winter wardrobe, theater, and outdoor gear room.
• Supervise student employees, guide the creation of publications, marketing materials and social‑media promotions, and maintain departmental websites.

Required profile

• Experience developing programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Strong background in student organization advising and risk management.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and multiple campus venues.
• Leadership experience supervising student staff.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
